full 32 character line display mod?

Post by waltermixxx »

hi there, wondering if anyone has done this mod, that allows you to display 32 characters on a regular video monitor.
the article was from the Aardvark journal, shown here...

I think it is a nice mod. It saves a lot of chips vs a crystal / counter design, but requires more delicate tuning. I also think it would be nice, on the Rev D, to get rid of the extra flip-flop stage inserted between the column and row counter stages, that effectively doubles the height of each line in 64-char mode, and instead add 1K more RAM to get 32x64 characters.

I’d also be interested in this mod plus a simple 64 x 32 mod circuit. I recreated the 540B schematic in kicad but was disappointed with the sheer number of chips needed. If the mod above could simplify the circuitry it would help with some of the projects on my todo list 😀
C4P working, C1P working. 600D Replica working, C4P+D&N floppy not working. 505 board, 610 board, Mittendorf board, TOSIE hacker board need testing, PicoDOS disk untested.
