48 pin bus Backplane

Post by MK14HAK »

I am relatively new to the 48pin expansion bus with only having obtained my SuperKit 502 system in the last month. Already I am having issues removing and replacing boards in those tight molex connectors. I grimace each time I have to pull a board with the obvious strain that goes on the boards the connectors and joints when doing so.
My first thort is to cut off the retaining wedge on the backplane connectors apart from the two at each end. Seems a bit drastic ?
I would appreciate any ideas on a better approach or perhaps you have a technique that makes the removal easier?

You want to get some CAIG deoxit and some Nyogel 760. Get the deoxit in the little bottle like nail polish. Remove all of the boards. Apply the deoxit to both the holes and the pins and let it set for a few minutes. Do not wipe away the excess. Then apply the Nyogel to the holes and the pins. Use a toothpick to push the Nyogel into the holes and apply liberally to the pins. Wipe off the excess with a paper towel. Insert the boards and remove them again and wipe off anything that pushes out. I recommend a similar procedure for S-100 boards.
