OSI C4P cassette interface

Post by mjmalecha »

Hi all, hoping you can fill in some gaps in my experiecne with cassette loading. I have had a C1P for a few years and all is very stable, actually using a small digital voice recorder containing many original tape programs. I finally :) acquired an extremely nice working C4P. But, the cassette loading is proving very challenging, just random character errros causing execution failure after load (i.e PRINT will be PRIN#, or some other letter will be replaced by another character or lower case) its usually 2 - 3 lines of program in a 5 min load only, but very concerning. So, can I assume the C4P uses the exact same 300baud KCS as the C1P, and programs should load to either machine? What typically causes the onesy, twosy character errors during the load? I have played with volume high & low, doesn't seem to eliminate, I can have a 100% known good program saved to the recorder and it is hit & miss if it will load error free. Do I have something failing in the computer cassette I/O? or is this just typical performance? Am I just lucky with my C1P, which never seems to error loading the same exact programs I am having isseus with on the C4P? any advice, comments warmly welcom and appreciated. thank you all!

I remember tape loading being fairly reliable while I had one, but of course tape decks vary in features and quality. Volume usually is the major factor, but also check if there is any noise cancelling or "bass boost" options/switches that might change the audio signal. Also, I wonder if the machine is overclocked if that affects the cassette circuitry? There is a KCS tape decoder program that might be able to verify your source tapes.

Yes, I've got both a C1P and a C4P and they both load and save without problems. There seems little difference between them in the cassette save/load department.

I use Audacity and save/load the files as Wavs from the hard drive via the sound card.
