From the schematic you posted, try adjusting R9. It may cause the overall display to brighten or dim, but if you are looking at reflections due to impedance mismatch, you should find you are able to identify a point of minimum snow, relative to the characters.

Your top diagram shows an typical emitter follower. Low impedance drive was the objective. Wouldn't hurt to add to 600s.
Is there a link to that diag? The 540B one I have is not like that.
Yes that trace mod looks right. Make sure its isolated from pin1 and 5V ( untested ).
CRT are nice in the winter! We don't need a video of you quivering thanks.
